Cursive for Education (C4E) is an initiative that seeks to bring the beauty of this timeless skill to young learners, opening doors to enhanced cognitive development, fine motor skills, and a greater sense of self-expression and recognition. C4E supports enthusiastic learners by providing them with both essential school supplies and tailored writing group classes.  A list of the former includes pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and cursive handwriting workbooks or notebooks. Our cursive writing classes use the Cursive-GENERATOR to explore multiple font styles. We reach many students – and want to have more – thanks to the devoted efforts of our beloved volunteers.

Where we work

C4E currently supports communities in rural Colombia–South America. This 2024, we began working in a small rural neighborhood, named La Esperanza (“The Hope”), in the municipality of El Carmen de Viboral, Antioquia. In the 90’s, this region had to resist the most horrible days of Colombia’s armed conflict. Nowadays, La Esperanza is becoming an example of resilience by healing the wounds of the past through storytelling and art. Its community has created open community spaces where children and elders share discussions about the past and then develop artistic projects such as theater and painting to look toward the future.

Together, we believe cursive writing can contribute to the education of the new generations of La Esperanza. So far, C4E has reached 20 eager children to initiate the cursive writing classes.  We aim to increase this number thanks to the invaluable support of our committed donors.

In Cursive-GENERATOR, we have designed three strategies to support the C4E initiative:
